SLIDESHOW: Richest people in the U.S. by state – WDAM

According to Forbes,  the wealthiest people in all 50 U.S. states are reflected in the above slideshow.  Surprisingly, the two wealthiest people in the nation are not the Koch brothers, although they do have more money than they know what to do with.

Several of the wealthiest people were discovered by Forbes’ research as “new names” (WDAM, MS).  Others have remained the same.  Many inherited their fortunes, however most on the list are “self made”.

The two wealthiest people in the nation have fortunes in the bank totaling more than the entire states of Washington and Nebraska.

Click throughout the slideshow to see who the richest person is in your state.

LA Votes to Raise Minimum Wage to $15/Hour

The Huffington Post reported that yesterday, the LA City Council voted 14-1 to raise the minimum wage from $9.00 to $15.00 per hour.  Los Angeles is the largest city in America to make this step.

The wage is proposed to be raised to $10/hour in January of 2016, then $1.00 per year to reach the $15 mark.

While this is not an instant increase, it does indicate progress in the right direction.  Many feel that other cities will follow.

“IT’S TIME TO SCRAP THE CAP AND EXPAND SOCIAL SECURITY!”

Social Security Works

Stand with Bernie Sanders!

It’s time to scrap the cap and expand Social Security!

At a time of massive wealth inequality, when 99% of all new income generated in this country goes to the top 1%, and when over half of the American people have less than $10,000 in savings, the last thing we should do is cut Social Security.

The best way to extend the lifespan of the Social Security trust fund is to scrap the cap on taxable earnings. Today, a Wall Street CEO who makes $18 million a year pays the same into Social Security as someone earning $118,500. That’s absurd. If we simply applied the payroll tax on income above $250,000, not only could we extend Social Security’s solvency until 2065, we could also increase benefits to meet the elderly’s higher living expenses.

Stand with U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and Social Security Works in demanding that Congress scrap the cap and expand, not cut Social Security!

To Congress:

With the average Social Security benefit today being just $1,328 a month, and more than one-third of our senior citizens relying on Social Security for virtually all of their income, our job is to expand benefits, not cut them.

We call on you to scrap the payroll tax cap on income above $250,000, extend Social Security’s solvency until 2065 and increase benefits to meet the elderly’s higher living expenses.
